Description (Object or Artwork): Perspective view of the Chain Pier and Pier Head from the Pier looking North towards Brighton. Four piles visible with four pairs of towers each pair joined at the top by a pyramidal arch. Centre foreground man in top hat arm in arm with woman. Figure of single woman with parasol to right. Group of three figures seated to far left, one playing a harp. Two women and a man arm in arm in foreground centre left. Funnel of steam boat with smoke pouring ot visible to right. Under image 'View from the Outer Platform, which is most respectfully dedicated to the Pier Company, by their obedient servant John Baxter, 1824, Publisher of the Stranger in Brighton and Directory'. The pairs of towers were modelled on the design of the pylon gateways of Karnak in Egypt
