Description (Object or Artwork): Perspective view of the Chain Pier and Pier Head from the Pier looking North towards Brighton. Four piles visible with four pairs of towers each pair joined at the top by a pyramidal arch. Centre foreground man in top hat and blue coat arm in arm with woman in white dress with pink shawl. Woman with pink parasol to right. Group of three figures seated to far left, one playing a harp. Two women and a man arm in arm in foreground centre left. Man and woman in blue dress arm in arm with man in blue breeches to right. Funnel of steam boat with smoke pouring ot visible to right. Under image 'View from the Outer Platform, which is most respectfully dedicated to the Pier Company.' The pairs of towers were modelled on the design of the pylon gateways of Karnak in Egypt
