Burma image, WA0156. Duleng cremation place. P.R.
This monochrome photographic print is showing a Duleng cremation place. The Duleng are an ethnic group, part of the broader Kachin community, from northern Burma (Myanmar). Green described that the Duleng are absorbing a certain amount of the ceremonial side of Buddhism from the Hkamti Shans. This photograph was taken by James Henry Green in the 1920s, a recruiting officer for the Burma Rifles who spent more than twenty years in Burma, much of it based in the northern hill states.
