Mary Wilmshurst became Headmistress of a school which she ran originally with her mother, Sarah and later her sister, Juliana at 22 Sussex Square, Brighton in the early 1850s. Her first job as a teacher was in Bridport, Dorset where she returned in later life and where she died in 1883 aged 78. She was also a competent artist.
